As the winter season approaches, we turn the furnace
on which has been idle throughout the summer months. The furnace is a component
of the HVAC system which helps in heating our home. Because of many days it has
stayed without working during the summer months, it is advisable to check
whether it functions properly. There are many signs that serve as an indication

Making
of creepy sounds
Though furnaces are made to make noise, sometimes

thermostat a bit high in order to experience heating. If nothing is happening,
and the room remains cold, then the trouble would be with your furnace or
leakage from ducts. You need repair your furnace or maintain it well. There
would be many problems causing this failure for example malfunctioning of the
blower and heat exchanger.

of electric bills
If you do some comparison with the present and
previous electric bills and find that the present is high then something is wrong

problem and fix it. Furnaces always keep a fixed amount of temperatures within
a home. If it isn’t keeping this temperatures and struggles, it means that it
is using a lot of energy and your bill is going up.
Yellow
flame
A yellow flame is not good for your furnace. The
yellow flame indicates that gases are combining inside your furnace. The blue
flame is okay because it indicates that the combination of gases is balanced.
Yellow flame on the other hand, signals that gases are combining with carbon
dioxide which is not good at all. It shows that the lifespan of the furnace
will be extremely short if you do not fix the problem.
Age
The lifespan of a furnace is between 15 and 20
years. If the furnace is not more than 15 years, it is important to maintain it
well in accordance to the manufacturer’s instructions. When the furnace hits 15
years, you will start hearing creepy and groaning sounds. You need to call a
technician to repair it.
Dust
If you notice unusual accumulation of dust, it means
that it is getting older and finding it hard to filter the air. It is advisable
to consult an expert to fix the problem before too long.
